The Basic Ways of Monitoring MQ

There are several facilities and techniques available to identify and resolve problems with IBM MQ (aka MQSeries & WebSphere MQ).
EVENT MONITORING
MQ publishes several event messages in some special SYSTEM Queues to indicate a failure, potential slowdown, change in configuration, security violation etc. These events can be turned on or off for the Queue Manager level and for Queues.
MESSAGE MONITORING
You can enable activity recording and identify the route a message has taken through a Queue Manager network. This allows you to track the time an application takes to process a type of message, or a particular message, identify points of failure.
ACCOUNTING AND STATISTICS MESSAGES
Queue Managers generate accounting and statistics messages, which can be turned on or off. These messages can be used for capacity planning or billing purposes.
REAL TIME MONITORING
There are a number of commands available to determine the status of queues and channels. Real time monitoring can be enabled or disabled. There are different intervals of data collection that can be tuned.
Nastel AutoPilot for IBM MQ uses all of these facilities for monitoring MQ and also correlates events from different sources such as Operating Systems, Business Applications, Custom metrics etc.
